Artist Statement:

I find myself daydreaming a lot. My paintings are an intuitive response to the dreams, thoughts, memories, and feelings that brew within my head.

Artist Bio:

Alaina Kalbfell (b. 1999) is a multidisciplinary artist who creates surreal, otherworldly figures, faces and spaces. Through the figure, Alaina explores themes of identity, emotion, mental health, dreams, and the subconscious. A lot of Alaina’s paintings experiment with using the technique of staining raw canvas, and working with a wet-on-wet process to create dreamy, atmospheric, and emotive figures. Her work balances between abstraction and figuration, creating images of beings that feel familiar, yet unknown.

Alaina is currently living and making art in New Jersey, where she grew up for most of her life. She has been creating since an early age, drawing, collaging, making films and animations - she has always been drawn to the figure and the portrait, which is commonly present in her work. Alaina continued her studies and love for art at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA, receiving her BFA in Fine Arts in 2022.
